VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
We are looking for Volunteers -- to come in three to four times a week, to assist teachers in their classrooms with pre primary and class 1 children ensuring that all children are at the same level of learning. The volunteer would also provide English and computer/internet support to the teachers post class time to enhance their capacities and resources for teaching. Additional skills and interests in art, craft, storytelling, etc would also be of help.
We are also looking for a person to come in 2-3 times a week and take Environmental Science for Std 1. Given that the school is located on a farm, with rivers and forests nearby, potential for EVS is tremendous. Some honararium can be worked out for this work.
Timings: 8.15 am - 2.30 pm
For those living in Mumbai, Dahanu is a two and half hour train ride away and convenient for volunteering for the day and returning back.
FULL TIME POSITIONS
Coordinator-Instructional Leader of the School
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual inspired by the idea and challenge of education for rural underprivileged children to join us here in Dahanu to:
1.Be a quasi-principal and take responsibility for the effective and efficient running of the school based on it principles and philosophy.
2.Play a leadership role amongst the team helping teachers develop lesson plans, guiding curriculum development, ensuring performance levels of children and taking the lead in developing the academics of the school.
3.Provide and organise training, exposure and opportunities for teachers to build their capacity. Take regular English class with the team of teachers.
4.Network with other educational institutions and initiatives that are similar to ours and learn and implement their ideas and methodologies at the school.
5.Use the digital medium to conduct all of the schools administrative work. Tamarind Tree has installed a dynamic open source software that is comprehensive and the person would be required to use and master it with some training.
6.Help create a culture and atmosphere of equality and freedom where children blossom.
Knowledge of Hindi/Marathi in addition to English would be helpful.
Location: Sogve village, Dahanu, Maharashtra (120 kms from Mumbai)
The person is expected to stay on the farm where the school is located. Food and accommodation will be provided on the chikoo farm. Independent cottage style accommodation with attached bathroom is available. The farm is on wi-fi and internet access is available!!
Remuneration: A modest salary in the range of Rs 8000-10000 a month (depending on qualifications and experience) will be given. Given proximity to Mumbai, frequent visits back home are possible. Tamarind Tree is looking for a one year commitment starting right away.
Class 1 Teacher
We are looking for a young, enthusiastic motivated individual to join us here in Dahanu to:
1.Work as a teacher in Class 1 at the school.
Partner with the local teacher to build curriculum, innovate and teach 6 year olds (subjects include, English, Math, Environmental Science, Reading,)
2.Play a leadership role amongst the team leading the teachers to develop their lesson plans, curriculum and developing alternative methods of teaching.
3.Take conversational English class with the teachers, encourage reading and guide them to speak English as far as possible.
4.Build the capacity of teachers to use digital technology and the internet to enhance their knowledge as well as teaching abilities.
5.Help create a culture and atmosphere of equality and freedom where children blossom.
